Our Story

Native Kingmanites.
Ancient craft.

Hive Five Meadery was born from a deep love of Kingman, Arizona and a passion for crafting one of the world's oldest beverages. As native Kingmanites, we wanted to bring something truly special to the Mother Road.

As a family-owned, locally-operated nano-meadery, we produce under 10,000 gallons annually — keeping every batch intentional, every bottle personal. We source 100% pure Arizona honey, because we believe great mead starts with exceptional ingredients from exceptional land.

Every pour carries the warmth of the Mojave Desert, the spirit of Route 66, and the soul of a community we've called home our whole lives.

Mead 101

What Is Mead?

The world's oldest alcoholic beverage, predating wine and beer by thousands of years. Made from one simple, extraordinary ingredient: honey.

🍯

Honey + Water

At its core, mead is fermented honey and water. But honey contains over 13 types of sugars, creating a complexity of flavor that wine can barely match.

📜

Ancient Origins

Evidence of mead dates back 9,000 years — found in ancient China, Africa, and Europe. Vikings, Greeks, and Egyptians all revered it as the "drink of the gods."

🌸

Endless Variety

Add fruit and it's a melomel. Add spices and it's a metheglin. Add apples and it's a cyser. The world of honey wine is endlessly diverse and endlessly delicious.

"Honey, in its raw form, contains over 13 distinct types of sugars — creating flavor profiles that no grape could ever dream of."
